| Friends of the Library Help KC Rep's "CLAY" Take to the NEW YORK STAGE! | |
|
Kansas City Repertory Theatre purchased several hundred damaged or unsaleable used books from Friends of the Library last August. The books were used to construct one of the sets for their first show of the season, Clay, written and performed by Matt Sax. After closing at the Rep in late September, the show (and set) moved to New York's Lincoln Center where it runs through Nov. 8. |

"It's funny that we think of libraries as quiet demure places where we are shushed by dusty, bun-balancing, bespectacled women. The truth is libraries are raucous clubhouses for free speech, controversy and community. Librarians have stood up to the Patriot Act, sat down with noisy toddlers and reached out to illiterate adults. Libraries can never be shushed." Paula Poundstone, comedienne and Friends of the Library USA national spokesperson.
